Hair Removal

Medical Skin Clinic Australia can offer an number of different options for hair removal.
The best starting point is why you have the hair in the first place. At the clinic we ensure you have a medical assessment to understand why you may have some problematic hair growth as this will ensure you respond to the correct treatment. Treatment options also depend on the hair location and its colour plus the colour of your skin.

An initial consultation to discuss your options is recommended.

Options for hair removal include:

  • Laser
  • IPL
  • Prescription creams
  • Hormonal management.

IPL or laser hair removal occurs in the following way:

    1. The area to be treated will be cooled and your eyes will be protected with some goggles.
    2. A clear ultrasound gel is then applied to the skin to protect its surface and help guide the light.
    3. The treatment will commence. You may hear some clicking and some feel a flick sensation. You may have some minimal discomfort but the procedure will not be painful.
    4. The area is then cooled after the treatment.

Some hairs will fall out straight away, others may take 7-10 days.

The long term effects will be discussed with you at your consultation and may require a number of sessions. Hair removal via laser or IPL is planned to be permanent , however this can not be gauarnteed and a successful treatment is seen as a reduction of 80% of the hair. Finer or less pigmented hairs may not be permanently destroyed.

How many treatments are required?
This is specific to the individual and will be discussed with you at your initial consultation.

Generally 5-6 treatments are required every 6-8 weeks on the body or 4-6 weeks on the face.

Maintenance treatments may then be required . Hair grows in specific cycles and visiable hairs are all at different stages of this cycle at different times. Treatments are only affective when the hairs are in their growth phase , known as anagen stage. Repeated treatments are designed to catch all the hairs during this anagen stage.
